Third Division leaders East Fife underlined their status as red-hot promotion favourites with a ruthless 4-0 thrashing of perennial strugglers East Stirling.

The visitors had conceded an early goal to Albion Rovers last weekend but were quicker out of the traps this time. With barely eight minutes gone Craig Smart helped on to Ryan Blackadder's cross and striker Craig O'Reilly scored with a low first-time shot.

East Stirling wasted a terrific opportunity to equalise nine minutes later when central defender Stephen Oates sent a free header wide.

Weak tackling gave Craig Smart the chance to double East Fife's lead but he missed the target by inches from the edge of the penalty box.

The visitors did go further ahead after 32 minutes and, although midfielder Neil Jablonski took the credit, his right-foot effort took a massive deflection off Oates.

The contest was probably already over but East Fife made sure with two more goals in a two-minute spell shortly after the break.

O'Reilly grabbed his second of the afternoon with a perfectly-angled header from Elliott Smith's cross and Blackadder completed the scoring with a 20-yard volley which went in off the post.
